We are delighted to welcome Bauke De Langhe, who has begun his TVO programme at SHOC.
Bauke began his studies in history in 2024 through a bridging programme, following several years of professional experience in the socio-cultural sector. During this programme, he developed a growing interest in academic research, particularly in the medieval and early modern periods.
For his bachelor’s paper, Bauke explored migration to Aalst in the fifteenth century. This research sparked a deeper interest in migration history and inspired him to pursue the topic further in his master’s thesis.
Alongside his own research, Bauke will assist professor Lambert for the Talent for Research-program with his research on the impact of migrants on the labour market in late medieval England. His work will focus on contributing to a database of luxury goods supplied and traded by migrants, as well as goods they made available to others. This will contribute to a broader understanding of migrants’ economic activities and their role in the late medieval labour market
