As of 1 September, Bob Pierik will join VUB and the SHOC research group as an assistant professor of early modern history.
Bob's research focuses on the history of everyday life and urban space. He is interested in historical-geographical practices on the intersection of social and cultural history. Themes of his work are gender and mobility, vehicles, work, privacy and water. Bob obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam, where he defended a dissertation on the street life of early modern Amsterdam. This also resulted in the Dutch public-facing monograph “Zo veel leven voor de deur. Een geschiedenis van alledaags Amsterdam in de zeventiende en achttiende eeuw.” At VUB, Bob will be teaching courses on early modern, urban and cultural history.
